25 August 2003 - Weekend in Glasgow

Friday
For a long time, some of the members of Dateclub.com had been chatting
about a weekend away, a weekend where we could all finally meet and
chat in person, instead of being icons and numbers. A few brave folk
took the plunge and decided to go to Glasgow a city where everything
opens late, the nightlife is always jumping, the restaurants are superb
(especially as we discovered the Spanish waiters) and never any trouble
to be seen (well almost)

In the early morning drizzle, Aneka (aka Annie) and her friend Sandra
(know ever since as Green Knickers) arrived at Glasgow airport to
be met by Big Malky. The expectation was, as he lives there, that
a hotel would be forthcoming. No such luck so the next hour was taxi
rides and hotel hunting (always with good will) ending at the holiday
inn.
After a quick tour, lunch, alcohol and shopping we all meet up with
Schilli. He proved to be the star of the weekend, bruising all who
danced with him and being shot by a sniper (imagine trousers round
ankles getting ready for bed and going down like a ton of bricks waking
all around). He also saw imaginary boxers, but we forgave him as he
is so lovely.
Later that evening we met up with Tommy and Ali, ate, got drunk, laughed
and went to see Jaz sing in a club. What a voice, that girl is a star!
Saturday
On Saturday, it was the NEXT sale so we women showed the men how to
shop! (Hence the green knickers) They took it all in good part sat
begging on the pavement awaiting our return and then carried the bags.
More fun followed that evening with an excellent Spanish meal, more
vino and a visit to a casino (hence the meeting of Schilli’s imaginary
Frank Bruno). Not to mention Schilli’s famous piano bar, and I mean
not to mention!!!!!!!!!

Sunday
Sunday was a lazy coffee at a pavement café where Schilli appeared
to upset an elderly Scots gentleman by his very presence. Expletives
I can not mention here were uttered by the old gent needless to say
Shilli will forever be known as a Hard Man!
That afternoon we went our separate ways with a load of photo’s, cartoon
drawings of us all and found memories. We all agreed next time it’s
the Pool………….and so it is. Friday 3rd October. 12 of us this time
(we raved so much in DC about our weekend they all want to come) are
heading for Liverpool. We come from all over the land………..Scotland,
Coventry, Essex, Norfolk, Kent Wales and Liverpool to name a few………See
we think it’s worth it. We all feel we have made real friends in DC
and what a social life we have. Want to join us? Then come in and
chat meet the folks and you never know what might happen next. Only
be prepared you might need to borrow Cilla’s hat!
